If you have read our previous article on fuel additives, you already know why they matter: dirty injectors, degraded fuel quality, deposit buildup, and the impact they have on engine performance, fuel economy, and long-term reliability. Now it is time to get specific.

BTS Industries, part of the Apex International Group, has been formulating professional-grade fuel additives for over 50 years. Made in the USA, every product in the BTS fuel additive range is US EPA-registered and engineered to address the real-world problems that build up in fuel systems over time. These include carbon deposits, gum and varnish buildup, intake valve fouling, and the gradual loss of power and efficiency that comes with them.

At WHGT, we supply the BTS fuel additive range as part of our industrial chemicals and MRO portfolio. Here is a breakdown of every product in the range, what it does, and which application it belongs to.

The Problem Every Engine Faces

Before getting into the products, it helps to understand the problem they are solving.

Every time a fuel injector fires, small droplets of fuel accumulate at the nozzle tip when the engine shuts down. In hot climates, a phenomenon called heat soak takes over. The residual heat from the engine bakes those fuel droplets onto the injector tip, forming hard carbon and varnish deposits over time. Each cycle adds to the build-up.

The consequence is a disrupted fuel spray pattern. Instead of atomizing fuel into a fine mist for efficient combustion, a fouled injector delivers an uneven, incomplete spray. Power drops. Fuel consumption goes up. Idle becomes rough. Starts become harder, emissions increase. And because the degradation is gradual, most drivers and operators do not notice how much performance has been lost until they use a proper treatment and feel the difference.

Intake valves face the same challenge. Deposits on intake valves restrict airflow and disrupt the air-fuel mixture, particularly in direct injection engines where the fuel is injected directly into the cylinder, and the valve no longer gets washed by fuel on every cycle.

The BTS fuel additive range addresses all of this systematically.

BTS Diesel Fuel Injector Treatment (B-00565)

For diesel engines, the backbone of commercial transport, heavy equipment, generators, and industrial machinery across the UAE, BTS Diesel Fuel Injector Treatment is the front-line product.

It is formulated to quickly dissolve and remove the carbon, gum, and varnish deposits that accumulate on diesel injector tips due to heat soak and combustion residue. One treatment helps unclog dirty fuel injectors, restoring proper fuel atomization and recovering lost power and acceleration. The knock-on effects are meaningful: better combustion efficiency translates directly to improved fuel economy and reduced smoke and particulate emissions, both a running cost improvement and a compliance benefit for fleets operating under emissions standards.

Beyond cleaning, BTS Diesel Fuel Injector Treatment improves lubricity in the fuel system, which is increasingly important given the low-sulphur diesel fuel in use today. As covered in our earlier article, ultra-low sulphur diesel has significantly reduced natural lubrication in fuel systems. This product restores that lubricity, protecting injectors and fuel pump components from accelerated wear.

It also contains a cold flow improver that helps impede gelling, waxing, and filter clogging when temperatures drop, useful for equipment operating in cooler overnight conditions or in air-conditioned fuel storage environments.

The product is US EPA registered and meets EPA regulations for low-sulphur fuel. For best results, use every 3,000 miles (4,800 km) or when a drop in performance or fuel economy is noticed. Net contents: 12 fl. oz. (354 mL).

BTS Fuel Injector Cleaner Super Concentrated (B-00525)

For petrol engines, BTS Fuel Injector Cleaner Super Concentrated is the dedicated injector cleaning solution. It targets the same heat-soak-driven deposit problem as the diesel product but is formulated for gasoline fuel systems, including both fuel-injected and direct injection engines.

One bottle dissolves harmful carbon, gum, and varnish on injector tips and intake valves, restoring clean, complete fuel atomization and recovering lost power and fuel efficiency. The product meets BMW Unlimited Approval Requirements for removing intake valve deposits, a certification that reflects a genuinely high standard of detergency performance, given BMW’s documented sensitivity to intake valve fouling in their turbocharged direct injection engines.

It is US EPA registered, safe for catalysts and oxygen sensors, and safe for all gasoline engines. Recommended use is every 3,000 miles (4,800 km) or when performance or fuel economy declines. Net contents: 12 fl. oz. (354 mL).

BTS Fuel Injector & Carburetor Treatment (B-00515)

This product covers a broader scope. It is formulated for both fuel-injected and carbureted engines, making it the right choice for older vehicles, small engines, generators, and equipment that still uses carburetors rather than modern fuel injection.

BTS Fuel Injector and Carburetor Treatment fights carbon and varnish deposit build-up throughout the fuel delivery system, helping maintain engine power and efficiency by keeping injectors, carburettor passages, and intake valves clean. The result is better air-fuel mixing, which prevents the hard starts, rough idle, and lost acceleration that deposit build-up causes.

Like the injector cleaner, it meets BMW Unlimited Approval Requirements for removing intake valve deposits, is US EPA registered, and is safe for catalysts and oxygen sensors. Recommended use is one bottle per 21-gallon fill-up. Net contents: 12 fl. oz. (354 mL).

BTS Gas Treatment Premium (B-00505)

BTS Gas Treatment takes a broader, more preventive approach to fuel system maintenance. Rather than targeting a specific component, it is formulated to maintain the entire fuel delivery system, keeping injectors, carburettors, and intake valves clean and preventing deposit build-up before it becomes a performance problem.

Beyond cleaning, it addresses two additional challenges that are relevant in the UAE operating environment: it fights water in the fuel system, removing moisture that would otherwise accelerate corrosion inside tanks, lines, and fuel system components; and it prevents fuel line freeze in cold conditions.

BTS Gas Treatment meets BMW Unlimited Approval Requirements for removing intake valve deposits, is US EPA registered, and is safe for all gasoline engines, including those with catalysts and oxygen sensors. Recommended use is one bottle per 21-gallon fill-up. Net contents: 12 fl. oz. (354 mL).

BTS Octane Power Boost Max Street Legal MMT+ (B-00545)

This is the performance-oriented product in the BTS fuel additive range, and it works differently from the cleaning products above.

BTS Octane Power Boost uses a true MMT-based (methylcyclopentadienyl manganese tricarbonyl) octane-boosting formula combined with a cleaning action called a Dual-Action Formula. The MMT component raises octane by up to 15 points, equivalent to 1.5 octane numbers. The cleaning component removes deposits from injectors, intake valves, and combustion chambers, which lowers the engine’s octane requirement by reducing hot spots and carbon build-up that cause pre-ignition. Together, the combined effect delivers an octane improvement of up to 25 points.

In practical terms, why does this matter? Modern engines use onboard computers to monitor knock and ping, the premature detonation that occurs when fuel ignites before the spark plug fires. When the computer detects knock, it retards ignition timing to protect the engine, which directly reduces power and performance. Higher octane fuel, or a correctly applied octane booster, allows the engine to run at its optimal timing, recovering that lost performance and, in some cases, exceeding factory output on engines that have been detuned by their management systems due to poor fuel quality.

The product also protects against valve seat recession, relevant for older engines not designed for unleaded fuel, and contains a smoke suppressant for 2-cycle engines. It is US EPA registered, safe for catalysts and oxygen sensors, and can be used at double the standard dose for off-road performance applications. Net contents: 12 fl. oz. (354 mL).

Which BTS Product Is Right for Your Application?

The five products in the BTS fuel additive range are not duplicates of each other. Rather, they serve distinct roles, and in many cases, they work best when used together.

For diesel fleets, heavy equipment, generators, and commercial vehicles, BTS Diesel Fuel Injector Treatment (B-00565) is the primary maintenance product, cleaning injectors, improving lubricity, and protecting fuel system components on a regular service interval.

For petrol cars, SUVs, and light commercial vehicles with fuel injection, BTS Fuel Injector Cleaner Super Concentrated (B-00525) delivers targeted, high-performance cleaning on the same interval.

For mixed fleets, older vehicles, or equipment with carburettors, BTS Fuel Injector and Carburetor Treatment (B-00515) covers both fuel delivery system types in a single product.

For routine full-system fuel maintenance and prevention of water contamination and deposit build-up across petrol engines, BTS Gas Treatment Premium (B-00505) is the broad-spectrum preventive option used every fill-up.

For performance applications, vehicles running on lower-octane fuel, or engines showing signs of knock and timing retard, BTS Octane Power Boost (B-00545), used alongside the injector cleaner, delivers the most complete combination of performance restoration and protection.
