Military, defence and navy asset preservation

Military specifications must be matched by product, revision, grade and class. The manufacturer states that Tectyl 511-M meets MIL-PRF-16173E Grade 5, Class 1, while 892-D meets Grade 1, Class I. Its specification table lists 502-C at Grade 2, Class 2. These products can be assessed for compatible defence and naval spare-parts preservation requirements.

For navy, military or defence procurement, provide the equipment specification and contract requirements so current compliance documentation can be checked. Specification compliance is not blanket approval for every military platform, naval vessel or application. The 846-K-19 manufacturer page uses conflicting D/E revision references; confirm the required revision before procurement.

Asset preservation questions

Which coating should I choose for outdoor storage?

Compare the substrate, exposure to rain or salt, required film type and inspection interval. Products such as 506-EH and 892-D have manufacturer-listed outdoor preservation applications. Use the current technical data sheet to determine preparation and application conditions; laboratory results are not a site-specific service-life guarantee.

Can a protective coating remain when equipment returns to service?

This depends on the coating and equipment. Some gearbox preservation applications allow 502-C to remain, subject to lubricant compatibility. Other films require removal. Plan the de-preservation method before choosing a product.
