Any maintenance technician who has worked on industrial equipment, heavy vehicles, or machinery in the Gulf region will have a story about a seized bolt. The kind that strips when you try to undo it. The kind that snaps off flush with the surface, turning a straightforward job into a two-hour extraction. The kind that costs far more in downtime and labour than anyone budgeted for.

Seized fasteners are not bad luck. They are the predictable result of metal-on-metal contact under heat, pressure, and the presence of moisture and corrosion. In the UAE’s operating environment, where temperatures push into the mid-40s in summer, where coastal salt air attacks exposed metal, and where equipment works harder and longer than in milder climates, the conditions for fastener seizure are about as favourable as they get. The solution is straightforward: apply the right anti-seize compound at assembly, before the problem starts.

BTS Industries has been formulating professional-grade anti-seize compounds for over 50 years. The BTS copper anti-seize range, manufactured in the USA by Apex International Group, is built for exactly the conditions that industrial and fleet operations in this region face. At WHGT, we supply the full BTS anti-seize range across the UAE and Gulf region, and this article covers each product, what it does, and where it belongs.

What Anti-Seize Actually Does and Why It Matters

Anti-seize is not simply a lubricant. It is a protective compound applied to threaded fasteners, flanges, pins, studs, and other metal contact surfaces during assembly to prevent the three main failure modes that make disassembly difficult or impossible: seizing, galling, and corrosion welding.

Seizing occurs when two metal surfaces under pressure fuse together due to heat and friction. Galling is a more aggressive form of the same process, where micro-welds form between surfaces that are sliding against each other. Corrosion welding happens when rust and oxidation products bond two surfaces together over time, particularly at elevated temperatures where oxidation accelerates.

All three are more common in high-temperature environments. Exhaust manifold bolts, cylinder head studs, flange connections on pipelines and process equipment, wheel hub bolts on heavy vehicles, spark plug threads, and any fastener in a hot zone of an engine or industrial plant are at risk.

Beyond preventing seizure, a quality anti-seize compound serves two additional functions. It lubricates the fastener during assembly, which allows proper torque to be achieved without the friction losses that would otherwise mean the fastener is under-tightened relative to its specified torque value. And it protects the metal surfaces from corrosion between assembly cycles, which is particularly relevant for fasteners that are removed periodically for maintenance and then reinstalled.

The BTS Copper Anti-Seize Range

The BTS anti-seize range currently comprises three copper-based products, available in different formats and pack sizes to suit different application needs and workshop setups. All three share the same core chemistry and performance credentials. The differences are in format and size.

BTS Copper Anti-Seize Industrial Grade Lubricant _ 12 oz Aerosol Spray

This is the aerosol format in the range, and the most practical option for applications where access is limited, coverage needs to be fast, or surfaces are difficult to reach by hand or brush.

The formula combines a high concentration of copper with a blend of premium-grade aluminium-complex grease and graphite. The copper provides high-temperature protection and galvanic corrosion resistance between dissimilar metals. The aluminium-complex grease base delivers stable, consistent film retention under load. The graphite contributes additional lubricity and heat resistance, particularly at the extremes of the service temperature range.

The aerosol delivers a smooth, precise spray pattern and comes with an extension tube for hard-to-reach areas. It does not run or splatter regardless of whether the extension tube is attached or not, which makes it clean and controllable in workshop conditions.

Performance specifications: heat resistant to 2000 degrees Fahrenheit (1093 degrees Celsius), which covers the full temperature range of diesel and petrol engine hot zones, exhaust systems, and industrial process equipment. It reduces friction, wear, and torque at assembly, prevents corrosion, galling, seizing and pitting, and eases both assembly and disassembly after prolonged service. It conforms to MIL-A-907-E, the US military specification for anti-seize compounds, and is VOC compliant with all US State and Federal regulations. Net weight: 12 oz (340g), 14.5 fluid ounces (430ml).

BTS Copper Anti-Seize Compound (B-00174) _ 16 oz Brush-Top

This is the larger of the two paste format products, supplied in a brush-top bottle for direct, controlled application by brush. The brush-on format is ideal for high-volume workshop use, flange applications, and any situation where paste coverage needs to be even and deliberate rather than sprayed.

The chemistry is a high concentration of copper enhanced with graphite, carried in a blend of premium-grade synthetic thickened petroleum-based grease. Like the aerosol product, the copper-graphite combination provides galvanic insulation between dissimilar metals and high-temperature lubrication. The synthetic thickened petroleum base gives it excellent adhesion to vertical and angled surfaces without slumping or running during assembly.

It insulates dissimilar metals from self-generated galvanic corrosion, prevents seizing and galling at high temperatures and pressures, and ensures easy removal of parts after extended service under adverse conditions. It also prevents binding during assembly to allow for proper torque. Heat resistance is the same as the aerosol: 2000 degrees Fahrenheit (1093 degrees Celsius). It conforms to MIL-A-907-E and is VOC compliant. Net weight: 16 oz (454g).

BTS Copper Anti-Seize Compound (B-00173) _ 8 oz Brush-Top

This is the smaller brush-top option, with identical chemistry and performance to the 16 oz version. It is the right choice for smaller operations, field maintenance kits, individual technician use, or situations where the volume of product needed per job does not justify the larger container.

Net weight: 8 oz (226g). Conforms to MIL-A-907-E. VOC compliant with all US State and Federal regulations. Heat resistant to 2000 degrees Fahrenheit (1093 degrees Celsius).

Why Copper Anti-Seize Is the Right Choice for Gulf Conditions

The choice of copper as the primary active metal in anti-seize compounds is not arbitrary. Copper has a melting point of 1083 degrees Celsius and maintains its protective film properties at temperatures that would degrade or burn off many other compounds. In an environment where surface temperatures on exhaust components, turbocharger housings, and industrial heat exchangers regularly exceed what standard greases or thread lubricants can handle, copper-based anti-seize remains stable and effective.

The galvanic insulation property of BTS copper anti-seize is equally important in the Gulf region’s operating context. When two dissimilar metals are in contact in the presence of an electrolyte, galvanic corrosion occurs. Salt-laden air near the UAE coast provides exactly that electrolyte. Aluminium engine components threaded with steel fasteners, stainless steel fittings in carbon steel flanges, and similar dissimilar metal pairings are found throughout industrial, automotive, and marine equipment. BTS copper anti-seize creates a barrier between those surfaces that interrupts the galvanic cell and stops the corrosion process at the thread interface.

For operations that rotate equipment, carry out scheduled maintenance, or work in environments where fastener access is compromised by location, heat, or corrosion, having a quality anti-seize compound as a standard part of the assembly procedure is one of the simplest and most cost-effective maintenance decisions available.

Where BTS Anti-Seize Belongs in Your Operation

The applications for copper anti-seize in industrial and fleet operations across the UAE are broad.

In automotive and fleet maintenance, it belongs on exhaust manifold bolts and studs, spark plug and glow plug threads, oxygen sensor threads, calliper slide pins, wheel hub bolts and lug nuts, and any fastener in a high-heat or high-corrosion area of the vehicle.

In industrial plant and process equipment, it belongs on flange bolts and gasket connections, pipeline fittings and unions, heat exchanger fasteners, valve stem threads, pump and compressor mounting hardware, and any threaded connection that operates at elevated temperature or in a corrosive atmosphere.

In marine operations, where salt water and corrosion are ever-present, anti-seize belongs on every threaded fastener exposed to the marine environment, drive shaft hardware, propeller shaft nuts, and through-hull fittings.

In construction and heavy equipment, it belongs on pin connections, bucket teeth bolts, track hardware, hydraulic cylinder mounting bolts, and any fastener on machinery that operates in abrasive, wet, or contaminated environments.

The rule of thumb is simple: if a fastener will be subjected to heat, corrosion, pressure, or any combination of the three during its service life, and if you will need to remove it again at any point, it should have anti-seize applied at assembly.
