Tectyl is a range of corrosion protection products. Depending on the grade, a coating leaves a protective oil, wax, resin or other film that helps isolate metal from moisture and corrosive contaminants. Select the exact grade for the substrate, exposure, protection period and removal requirements.

Tectyl coatings are applied directly to the metal; vapor corrosion inhibitor packaging works within a suitable enclosed space. Neither approach is best for every asset. Compare the storage environment, packaging seal, handling requirements and need to remove a coating before service. Confirm compatibility before combining systems.

They are different corrosion preventive grades with different film properties and specifications. Compare the current technical data sheets for film type, recommended thickness, application, removability and test results. Do not substitute a product solely because it carries the Tectyl name. Compliance is specific to the grade, specification revision, class and supplied product. A general brand statement does not establish qualification or project approval. Send the exact procurement requirement and request current manufacturer documentation before accepting a substitute.

Choose a cavity protection grade with suitable penetration, film characteristics and compatibility for the enclosed area. Vehicle cavities, seams and hollow sections have different access and drainage requirements. Explore cavity wax and confirm the application instructions for the supplied grade.

Their carriers and drying requirements differ. Compare the current technical and safety data sheets for ventilation, VOC information, drying conditions, substrate compatibility and application method. A water-based coating is not automatically suitable for every application or free of handling requirements.

Select a product intended for the required underbody exposure and impact resistance. Tectyl 190 Black is a rubber/resin protective coating for suitable ferrous surfaces and vehicle underbodies. Confirm preparation, film thickness, overcoating and application requirements against its current documents.

There is no single protection period for the whole range. Performance depends on the grade, film thickness, preparation, exposure and handling. Manufacturer laboratory results and reference protection periods are not a guarantee of service life at a particular site. Plan inspections against the asset and environment.

Check the shelf life and storage conditions for the exact grade, production date and supplied packaging. Shelf life before application is different from protection life after application. Do not assume every Tectyl product has the same shelf life.

Use the theoretical coverage stated on the grade-specific technical data sheet at the specified film thickness. Actual consumption also includes spray losses, surface geometry and application efficiency. Provide the surface area and recommended thickness when requesting help estimating quantity.

Assess the exact use: stored parts, cavities, underbody protection or another component. Product suitability and any fire-performance requirements must be checked against the current grade documentation and the project specification. Brand-wide suitability does not establish railway approval.

Compatibility depends on the product and substrate. Confirm aluminium, steel, coated surfaces, plastics, seals and other adjoining materials against the current application guide. Test the system where required before treating the full assembly.

Some grades may suit preservation where moisture and salt exposure are concerns. Select against the actual exposure, required duration, accessibility and removal needs. General salt-spray data does not establish suitability for immersion, every offshore asset or a permanent protective coating system.

Removal depends on the grade and whether the film has cured. Some coatings are removable; others are not intended for removal after curing. Use only the method specified in the current application guide and follow the matching safety data sheets for the coating and remover.

These are different engine preservation oil grades. Compare viscosity, equipment requirements, storage conditions and current manufacturer specifications before selection. Explore Tectyl 930. Do not assume a preservation oil is suitable for routine operation without checking the engine requirements.

Tectyl 511-M is a corrosion preventive grade used for suitable component preservation applications. Confirm its film characteristics, substrate compatibility, protection conditions and any military specification requirements using current manufacturer documents for the supplied product.

Tectyl 892-D is a protective coating grade. Confirm its intended substrates, film characteristics, preparation, application and removal instructions against current manufacturer documents. Use the stated test method and film thickness when comparing performance with another grade.

Identify every material the coating will contact, including metal alloys, existing coatings, seals and plastics. Check the grade-specific application guide and ask for technical advice where compatibility is unclear. A product suitable for steel is not automatically suitable for every material.

A combined system may be appropriate, but compatibility and performance must be assessed for the exact coating, packaging and asset. Discuss enclosure, moisture control, storage duration, cleanliness and removal needs before adopting a combined preservation process.

Follow the exact application guide. For example, the manufacturer Tectyl 506 data sheet specifies clean, dry metal free of rust, oil and mill scale for maximum performance. Preparation, substrate temperature and application conditions can differ between grades.

Do not apply a general corrosion coating to electrical equipment without confirming suitability. Check effects on electrical contact, insulation, plastics, seals and operating temperature, as well as the equipment manufacturer requirements. Request advice for the exact connector and product.

Start with the equipment manufacturer requirements and preservation specification. Confirm viscosity, internal material compatibility, commissioning procedure and whether the preservative must be removed. Engine oils, gearbox preservatives and external coatings have different roles and should not be interchanged without technical confirmation.

The PSC reference lists MIL-C-16173E / MIL-PRF-16173E corrosion preventives, MIL-C-11796C classes, MIL-PRF-21260E preservative oils and MIL-H-5606 hydraulic fluid, among other categories. These are different product requirements. Use the list as a starting point, then verify the exact product and current procurement specification.

Match the full specification number, revision, grade, class or type in your purchase requirement to documentation for the exact supplied product. Check current specification status through DLA ASSIST or Quick Search. An older MIL-C reference should not be treated as automatic evidence of compliance with a later MIL-PRF revision.

A performance-compliance statement and formal qualification are different evidence. Where the specification requires qualification, check the official Qualified Products Database for the product designation and manufacturer. DLA identifies the QPD as the official qualification repository; a general brand claim or an old catalogue entry does not replace that check.

Include the required specification and revision, grade or class, quantity, pack size, destination and intended application. Ask which current technical and safety data sheets, batch traceability, conformity documentation, test evidence and qualification records can be supplied. Confirm document availability and acceptance requirements before placing an order.

The European manufacturer product sheet reviewed for Tectyl 511-M states MIL-C-16173 D, Grade 5 performance requirements and describes a water-displacing, oil-based protective film for covered shipment and indoor storage. Confirm the current sheet for your supplied market; this historic sheet does not establish every later revision or aircraft approval.

Consider a Tectyl grade only when the applicable aircraft maintenance instructions or approved materials process permits that exact product for the specified task. Military-specification performance alone does not authorize use on every aircraft. FAA corrosion guidance gives precedence to the airframe or engine manufacturer’s published corrosion-control programme.

Identify the aircraft model, maintenance task, treatment area and required material designation before selecting a coating. Follow the applicable aircraft instructions for preparation, application, inspection and renewal. A cavity-wax or industrial-coating description alone does not establish suitability for aircraft structures or inaccessible areas.

No substitution should be assumed. The reference separates preservative-oil specifications from MIL-H-5606 hydraulic fluid and corrosion-preventive coating categories. For an aircraft engine or hydraulic system, use the exact fluid or preservative specified by the equipment manufacturer and maintenance procedure, with the required supporting documentation.

Assess the operating environment and the aircraft’s maintenance programme, including exposure to salt, moisture and contaminants. FAA guidance includes cleaning, inspection, preservation and keeping drainage paths clear as part of corrosion control. Use the aircraft-specific programme to set treatment areas and inspection intervals rather than adopting a universal regional schedule.

State whether the application is an aircraft, a removed component or airport ground equipment. Provide the equipment model, task or material reference, required specification, substrate, exposure, quantity and delivery city. Include any required OEM approval or traceability documents so the proposed product and documentation can be assessed against your requirement.
